❓ Frequently Asked Questions – GST Calculator

What is GST and what are the current GST slabs in India?
GST (Goods and Services Tax) is a unified indirect tax levied on the supply of goods and services in India. India has five main GST slabs: 0% (essential items like fresh vegetables, milk), 5% (packaged food, transport), 12% (mobile phones, processed food), 18% (most services, electronics) and 28% (luxury items, automobiles, tobacco). Some special items attract additional cess on top of 28%.
What is the difference between GST exclusive and GST inclusive?
GST Exclusive means the price shown does not include GST — the GST amount is added on top. For example, a product priced at ₹1000 with 18% GST would cost ₹1180 total. GST Inclusive (reverse GST) means the price already includes GST — you need to calculate what portion is the base price and what is the GST. A ₹1180 GST-inclusive price would have ₹1000 base + ₹180 GST at 18%.
What is CGST, SGST and IGST?
When a sale happens within the same state (intrastate), the GST is split equally between CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST). For example, 18% GST = 9% CGST + 9% SGST. When a sale happens between different states (interstate), the full GST is charged as IGST (Integrated GST), which is then split by the government. This calculator lets you toggle between CGST+SGST and IGST modes.
How do I use the Multi-Item Bill calculator?
Click the "Multi-Item Bill" tab. Click "+ Add Item" to add rows to the bill. For each item, enter the item name, quantity, unit price and select the applicable GST percentage. The calculator automatically computes the GST amount and total for each item and shows a grand total with full CGST/SGST/IGST breakdown. You can also apply a discount percentage and print/save the bill as a PDF.
What is Cess in GST?
Cess is an additional charge levied on top of the regular GST rate for certain goods considered luxury or harmful, such as tobacco products, aerated drinks and high-end automobiles. For example, cigarettes may attract 28% GST + 5% cess. This calculator supports optional cess calculation — enable the Cess toggle in the Add GST mode and enter the cess percentage.
