❓ Frequently Asked Questions – Time Calculator
How do I calculate the duration between two times?
Select the "Duration" mode, enter your start and end times in hours, minutes and seconds, choose 12-hour or 24-hour format, then click Calculate Duration. The tool shows the exact gap in HH:MM:SS format along with total hours, minutes and seconds. Overnight calculations crossing midnight are handled automatically.
How do I add or subtract hours from a time?
Use the "Add / Subtract" mode. Enter your start time, choose Add or Subtract, then enter the number of hours, minutes and seconds to apply. Click Calculate and the resulting time is displayed instantly. If the result crosses midnight, the day offset is shown so you know if the result is the next day or previous day.
What is the Multi-Time mode useful for?
The Multi-Time mode lets you add or subtract multiple time durations at once. This is useful for summing up a timesheet (total hours worked across sessions), calculating total video or podcast playlist length, or adding up multiple travel segments. Each row can be individually toggled between addition and subtraction.
How do I convert hours to minutes or seconds?
Use the "Unit Convert" mode. Enter your number, select the From unit (e.g. Hours) and the To unit (e.g. Minutes), then click Convert. A full table showing the equivalent value in all time units — milliseconds, seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years — is also displayed below the main result.
How does the Work Hours calculator work?
In Work Hours mode, add one row per workday by entering a start and end time. Set a break/lunch duration to deduct from each day. Optionally enter your hourly rate. The calculator computes total hours worked, average hours per day, overtime (hours beyond 8hrs/day) and total earnings including 1.5× overtime pay.
What is the difference between 12-hour and 24-hour format?
The 12-hour format uses AM/PM — for example 2:30 PM means mid-afternoon. The 24-hour (military) format runs from 00:00 to 23:59 with no AM/PM needed — 14:30 means 2:30 PM. Both are supported in the Duration and Add/Subtract modes of this calculator.
