❓ Frequently Asked Questions – Flip & Rotate Image

Can I rotate by a custom angle like 15° or 45°?
Yes. Use the Custom Rotation slider to set any angle from -180° to +180°. You can also type an exact value in the input field. Common uses include straightening a tilted photo (small angles like -3° to 3°) or creating diagonal compositions (45°). For non-90° angles, white corners appear — enable "Crop to fit" to automatically remove them, or set a custom background fill color.
Can I combine flip and rotate?
Yes. Flip and rotate transforms are applied together to the final output. For example, you can flip horizontally and rotate 90° at the same time. The live preview always shows the current combination of all applied transforms. Use the state display badge to see your current transform settings at a glance.
What does Flip Horizontal do?
Flip Horizontal mirrors the image left-to-right, creating a mirror image. This is commonly used to correct selfie photos (where the camera flips the image), to create symmetrical compositions, or to fix text that appears backwards in an image. Flip Vertical mirrors the image top-to-bottom.
What is the Crop to Fit option?
When rotating by non-90° angles (like 15° or 30°), the corners of the original image extend beyond the canvas, creating white or colored triangular areas in the corners. "Crop to fit" automatically crops the rotated image to the largest rectangle that fits within the original canvas, removing the empty corner triangles. This gives a clean result without corner artifacts.
Does rotating by 90° reduce image quality?
When using the Canvas API (which this tool uses), rotating by any angle applies bilinear interpolation. For 90°, 180° and 270° rotations, the pixel data is essentially just rearranged without any quality loss in practice. For custom angles, slight interpolation artifacts may appear at very high zoom levels, but for normal viewing they are imperceptible at quality settings of 90%+.
